Matthew Holt was elected to the Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders in the November 2006 General election, and began his first term in January of 2007.
Matt served for ten years in local government in the Town of Clinton as a member of Council and spent two years as Mayor. During his local government tenure, he served on almost every committee of Board, providing a wealth of knowledge, gained during that decade of service.
As a Freeholder, Matt is responsible for the following Departments:
Health, Human Services, Planning, County Agricultural Development Board, Purchasing
Matt is also a Trustee on the Raritan Valley Rail Coalition, and serves as a Trustee on the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority. Further, in 2009, Matt was elected to serve as Secretary to the NJTPA as a member of the executive committee, and is Vice Chair of the Planning and Development Committee, and a member of the Project Prioritization Committee.
Matt remains a true fiscal conservative, providing planning and direction for positive and efficient use of tax revenue for the best long term benefit of the County and its’ residents.
He continues to support economic growth as well as open space preservation, seeing the balance of both as positive for Hunterdon. His passion is based in finding solutions to the transportation and road system which is outdated for the volume of use, and for which, if solutions are not presented and adopted, the county and municipal road system will continue to see excessive use, resulting in a loss of quality of life in Hunterdon.
Matt is married to his wife Megan Jones-Holt who was elected in 2009 as District Gov. Rotary District 7510 - 2011-2012
They have one son, Justin ( 27)
