JOHN KING & RICHARD O'MALLEY
TOWNSHIP OF RARITAN

Committeemen King and O'Malley were elected in November of 2006 to serve three year terms as members of the governing board for the Township of Raritan, Hunterdon County, NJ. Each has served as both Deputy Mayor and Mayor during their first term and as Commissioners of Public Safety.

Committeemen King and O'Malley are proven fiscal conservatives with a record of admirable accomplishments in good governance, support of the community and the preservation of our rural quality. Both remain committed to these principles:

Ethics
 - Passed and implemented one of New Jersey's strictest Municipal Ethics Ordinances, (2008)
 - Removed pay-to-play politics and the pension padding from the Raritan Township Municipal Utilities Authority by lowering the salaries below the state limit to $1,400.

Fiscal Responsibility
 - Committed to control taxes and rein in spending and actually lowered municipal taxes
 - Cut more than $800,000 and $1 million in spending from the 2007 and 2008 budgets, respectively
 - Assured that any borrowing (new debt) would be put before the public in a voters' referendum, (2008)
 - Reduced the township debt by $3 million
 - Reduced use of budget surpluses to balance the budget from $4.2 million in 2005 to $600K in 2009
 - Favorably negotiated with the Township's three Union Labor workforces, reducing healthcare and legal costs
 - Reorganized Township Planning & Engineering Departments resulting in annual savings of $254,000
 - Reduced the size of local government by approximately 12%
 - Reduced most budgeted line items to less than they were in 2005.

Community Affairs – (Programs accomplished at no additional cost to our taxpayers!)
 - Improved vital communications by restructuring the Township and Police Web Sites, (2009)
 - Found a new home for the Flemington Food Pantry, resulting in a significant savings in operating costs that can now be directly applied to serving the needs of area residents.
 - Negotiated agreement to provide Pioneer Football Organization with fields and facilities
 - Created a public/private partnership that parkland for our residents and serves the growing needs of the Greater Flemington Soccer Club
 - Solicited and received the donation of a Police Motorcycle for use by the department to improve community relations, courtesy of Mercedes-Benz of Flemington
 - Re-instituted the Community Policing Initiative

Rural Quality
 - Proposed and approved financial commitment through Open Space Funds to rehabilitate the Dvoor Farm, bringing it to life for the residents of our Township
 - Recovered 17.5 acres of open space from State of NJ for use as recreational facilities
 - Led the signing of the Mayors' Climate Control Agreement
 - Established through Resolution that many of our Public Parks would become and remain “Pesticide Free Zones” for the betterment of the general health and welfare of our residents.
 - Built Blackwell Park for the recreational needs of our Township's “southern” residents
